Third-Party Comments

Third-Party Comment Sought for National Accreditation

Ohio Wesleyan University’s (OWU) Education Department will undergo an accreditation visit by members of the Board of Examiners of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) October 9-11, 2011.

As part of the review process, the Education Department and Ohio Wesleyan University are required to solicit third-party comment on the quality of its teacher education program. These comments must be solicited within a specified period and based on the tenets of NCATE accreditation standards of excellence, which recognize that:

  •  OWU teacher education candidates know the subject matter and can teach it effectively so that all students learn;
  • OWU teacher education candidates can connect theory to practice and be effective in an actual PreK-12 classroom;
  • OWU’s Education Department and its programs and faculty are involved in ongoing planning, evaluation, and assessment as it responds to new knowledge, practice, and technologies in this evolving world of education and educational reform.

We invite interested parties to submit written testimony on the OWU Education Department to:

                  Board of Examiners/NCATE

                  2010 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Suite 500

                  Washington, DC 20036-1023

                  Or by email to: callforcomments@ncate.org

Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional programs offered and should specify the respondent’s relationship, if any, to the institution (i.e., graduate, employer of graduates). Copies of all correspondence received will be sent to the OWU Education Department for comment prior to the on-site review. No anonymous testimony will be considered.

Letters of comment should be received no later than September 1, 2011.
